Week 8 was the highest scoring week of the season, and the highest since Week 6 of last season, with 1,002 total points scored. There were 6 teams that scored over 100 points, which was the most since Week 5 of 2021.
Erik and Sean become the 7th and 8th teams to start a season with just one loss through the first 8 weeks. The previous 6 teams all made the playoffs. Three of those teams won the Robbie Bowl, while one of those teams lost the Robbie Bowl. The other two lost the 3rd place game and finished in 4th place.
Jacob has started 6-2 or better in 3 of the last 4 years. He is the 13th team to start a season 6-2, and historically has a 75% chance of making the playoffs.
Schweg is currently alone in 4th place at 5-3 which gives him a 62% chance of making the playoffs.
Ryan and Aaron are in the middle at 4-4 in 5th and 6th place, and they have a 40% chance of making the playoffs.
Jake is alone at 3-5 and in 7th place, and has just a 12% chance of making the playoffs. Only 3 of the 25 teams that have started 3-5 have ended up making the playoffs.
Terrance and Chase are sitting at 2-6, and would probably need to win out plus some help to have a shot at making the playoffs. Only Terrance’s team from 2015 was 2-6 and found its way into the playoffs.
Sean’s winning streak is finally broken. After an incredible 7-0 start, Sean looked to become the first team in TPDFFL history to start 8-0, but his efforts were thwarted by fellow division leader, Jacob. The longest active winning streak is now shared between Jacob and Terrance with 2 consecutive wins. Sean still holds onto the #1 seed for now thanks to a tiebreaker over Erik, but the loss to Jacob after winning their matchup in Week 6 has evened the series.
The record-setting 13-game win streak that Jake had against Ryan is finally over. Ryan wins 72-71 to end the streak and defeat Jake for the first time in 2,879 days, which was Week 14 of the 2014 season, almost 8 years ago. The one point victory was the closest margin of victory all-season, with somewhat of an asterisk because of Ryan’s decision to sit Tyler Boyd and preserve the victory. This was the 3rd lowest scoring game out of the 23 matchups between Ryan and Jake. The last one point victory took place in Week 13 of last season when Erik defeated Schweg 120-119. This game was the 22nd game in league history to be decided by a single point, and it was Ryan’s 3rd career 1-point victory. The new longest active winning streak of any owner vs owner rivalry is Terrance’s 8-game winning streak he has on Jarrett which dates back to 2018, and one that he just extended this week.
Terrance is now 16-4 against Jarrett, and the 80% winning pct makes it the most lopsided rivalry in the TPDFFL. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th most lopsided rivalries all belong to Jake. Jake has a combined record of 44-15 against Sean, Schweg and Ryan.
Sean remains the points leader, but his pace has dropped to 1,569 points, which would be enough for 2nd most all-time. Sean has also had the fewest points scored against him and is on pace to have 1,139 points scored against, which would be the 3rd fewest all-time.
Jarrett becomes the first team to start a season 0-8, and his losing streak goes back 3 games into 2021, meaning he is now on a league-record 11-game losing streak, breaking the tie he held with Erik’s 10-game losing streak from 2018, when Erik finished 1-12-1.
Jarrett has the fewest points scored this season and is on pace to score 1,095 points which would be the 3rd fewest.
Coming into Week 8, we had seen just two 30+ point performance from RBs this season, Josh Jacobs in Week 7 and Austin Ekeler in Week 5. We had four RBs go for 30+ in Week 8: Kamara, Henry, Pollard & CMC. We could’ve had five had Ryan started D’Onta Foreman.
Chase has had the most points scored against him this season and is on pace to have 1,468 points scored against which would be the 2nd most all-time.
For just the 23rd time in league history, a lineup included at least 2 players who scored over 30 points. That was Schweg’s team with 32 from Tony Pollard and 31 from CMC.
Jarrett had two players combine for -1 point. This was the 11th time in Jarrett’s career that he has gotten 0 points (or less) from at least two players. That is tied for the most in the league with Aaron.
Week 8 was a complete interdivisional showdown. All 5 games featured a team from Schwegtopia and one from Vaidenville. Jacob won his game against Sean, but Schwegtopia went 4-1 on the week, and they improve to 16-5 on the season.
Jake was the lowest scorer of the week with 71 points, and will be contributing to the 3rd place bottom bitch fund.
Schweg becomes the 3rd owner with 70 career games scoring at least 100 points. Terrance is the leader with 73 and Erik is at 71.
The 247 combined points scored between Schweg and Chase were the 2nd most this season. The 234 combined points scored between Erik and Aaron were the 3rd most this season.
Chase scores over 100 points for the first time this season, but unfortunately still lost. Coming into Week 8, there had only been two 100 point losses all season. Both Chase and Aaron lost this week while scoring over 100 points. The 100+ scoring win pct drops to 85.2% on the season, which is still above the all-time average. Aaron’s loss was his 13th career loss while scoring at least 100 points, which is the 2nd most in league history. For Chase, this was his 10th career 100 point loss.
After getting passed last week, Schweg jumps back in front of Sean to move into 2nd place for total career points scored.
Jake remains the leader in winning pct for the month of October with 58.5%. After several awful years early on in league history, Erik is still in last place for October but has worked his way back to the pack with a 42.5% win pct.
Looking ahead to November, the monthly leader is Aaron with a career winning pct of 61.7%, which is the 3rd best of any owner in any month. We’ve highlighted Chase’s November struggles in years past as he sits with a 30.8% winning pct. Only Jarrett in September is worse. Chase’s November record is 12-27 and Jarrett’s September record is 12-29. Chase’s struggles have been consistent for the past 5 seasons, as he has a November record of 4-17 since 2017.
Week 9 Preview
2) Jacob (6-2) vs 3) Erik (7-1)
Jacob leads the series 10-7, but it was Erik who won their last meeting in the 2021 Semifinal.
Game Rating: 13
4) Schweg (5-3) vs 5) Ryan (4-4)
Ryan leads the series 10-9, but Schweg has won the last 2 games including a win in Week 6 earlier this season. The winner of this game will have the inside track on the final wildcard seed.
Game Rating: 9
1) Sean (7-1) vs 8) Terrance (2-6)
This is one of the underrated rivalries of the league. Sean and Terrance have been in each other’s division every year so they’ve played twice every single year and three times in 2012 when Sean defeated Terrance in the semifinal. This series is all tied up at 11-11 with Sean winning 4 of the last 5, including a win in Week 3 earlier this season.
Game Rating: 9
7) Jake (3-5) vs 9) Chase (2-6)
Jake leads this series 9-7. We aren’t pulling out the snake chalice yet, but one more loss could mean the chalice will be up for grabs earlier than any other season.
Game Rating: 5
6) Aaron (4-4) vs 10) Jarrett (0-8)
Poor, poor Jarrett. Aaron leads this series 10-5 and has won 4 straight games. Jarrett will be trying to snap his league-record 11-game losing streak. Aaron will try to win to keep up in the wildcard race. Aaron plays fellow wildcard challengers Ryan in Week 10 and Schweg in Week 11.
